Bones - Here He Lies

And then came the day after.

He's there again, standing by the door. The day after the day after, he sits by the door. Each day he comes, and each day he gets closer, until finally, nearly two months later, he's sitting next to him, shoulder to shoulder.

They don't speak, or at least not Zack. Sometimes he does, but it's hard; it's almost like a coma patient, where they tell you to talk because they can still hear you, but somehow you just know the connection's not being made. One month, then two, then three, and on and on and on, and he thinks maybe he's forgetting what his buddy's voice sounds like.

Each day is the day after, and each day he visits Zack. Each day he hates himself for letting that rat bastard snake his way into his friend's mind, and each day Zack stares at a wall.

Fanart done for a fanfic I'm writing for Bones therapy ("Here He Lies, our Once-Proud King"), 'cause the finale killed me. (Please, do not comment on how horrible you thought the episode was. Yes, it was rushed, but I'm blaming that on the Strike. I'm sure if they had had time to develop it properly it wouldn't have...no, it would've still been a blow, but it wouldn't've felt like something they just ripped outta their arses.)

If Zack's not back in psych ward visits next season, I'm quitting canon entirely. I might just quit the show. (Bring back Zack!)
